Do you love going on hikes and overnights, but aren’t sure how to plan and pack for backpacking? Or maybe you’ve backpacked before but would like to go on a chill trip, organized by experienced leaders, to meet other awesome folks? Come join this all-genders backpacking trip and we’ll teach you everything you need to know to safely lead a trip for your family or friends in the future.
Wait, how is this different from the introduction to backpacking course? The intro class covers the basics and is set up to be approachable for anyone who’s been on a day hike and can carry a pack. This course will cover those basics as needed, but will also get more into the logistics of trip planning, choosing food, and actively navigating. Basically the intro class is for being comfortable going along on someone else’s trip. This class is about gaining the skills to plan and lead your own trips. You don’t need more than a couple of nights in the woods to be ready for it though – we’ll make things easy!
An Important Note on Fitness Levels:
Backpacking means hiking trails with a 30-40 pound pack on. These trips will have us hiking 4-8 miles per day, which is quite different with a pack on than when you’re hiking with your dog! If you exercise a couple times a week, you will likely feel aches and pains on the trip but will be fine. If you are out of shape or don’t walk, run or hike a couple times a week, we do not recommend this trip, as hiking with weight when not in shape can cause serious injuries.
